Making this map helped me understand how maps show different information like land, population, and countries. I learned how to use colors, symbols, and a legend so people can read the map easily. While making it, I also realized that geography can affect where people live and where cities are built. This could help me in future classes and also help me understand real maps better in daily life.
Real-World Inspiration
My map was inspired by real places with volcanoes and forests, like Singapore, because we control a major maritime choke point. Our islands are also inspired by Hawaii but our island is better because central mountains create a 360-degree wall. This assignment is similar to what we are doing in Chinese because we are also doing a world-wide view about difficulties people face in their daily,
What I Learned
The thing i learn from this assignment is not just simply drawing skill, instead i learn about how natural resources, climate, coordinate and where mountains are related, this is very important because it changes how i view this whole world’s situation included political, for example from the map i can know why Hermosa Strait means so much to Iran and US. This is alike with the video assignment talks about banana by connecting political and geography together.
Geography and People
The geography affects how people live on the island. People would stay away from volcanoes because they are dangerous, but they may still farm nearby because the soil is good. Forests give wood and food, but wildfires make life harder. Mountains also make travel difficult, so some places are more isolated. And in math, we talk about tools used in accent society that actually helps me a lot by making me know whether it is possible or not to put people there. After finishing this i give it to classmates that are not in our team to give opinion about our map, the thing they talk about the most is the misput of the diamonds but everything looks normal after changing it.
Changes for Realism
To improve my map of Pakiden Island, I would place the volcanoes closer together instead of spreading them out. I would also add rivers from the mountains to the lower land. This makes the map more realistic because in real life, water flows downhill and volcanoes are usually in groups. Those are some points people point out during presentation
In making my Map, I noticed the many different landforms including mountains, volcanoes, and winds combine with one another to affect each other; for example, mountains block clouds from forming, causing heavy rain to fall on the side that they are on. After I finished creating my Map, I received feedback that my Map looked random. I had to make edit my Map so that I grouped most of the volcanoes together, and also decided where the rain and how the Forests should be placed. My Map looked much more realistic. I also learned that I need to develop better Planning Skills to create my Work before creating it. Therefore, I will sketch my work the next time I create a map so it can help me in the future as I use these skills to better understand how the physical environment can affect humans.
Our group collaborated on creating an imaginary island called Pakiden Island. Working together force us to brainstorm different ideas based on our views of a physically active and dangerous area of nature. For example, we added volcanoes, mountain ranges, and heavy forest regions to our island. Even more , we added a latitude and longitude grid that shows where natural disasters occur in relation to landforms. Because we all shared different thoughts and opinions, we were able to design clear and creative physical maps for the second parts of the project.
Mapping out the second map was a lot of work and thought, because the physical land and where people would live were hard to connect. Based elements needed to be in place, such as making routes for people to travel, as well as putting in zones of cities, rivers and how people adapted to the island's geography. This mean doing a lot of planning, because farming and tourism areas needed to be far enough away from volcanoes but mining should be located close to the diamond areas. Overall, organizing the map, drafting the legend and writing the descriptions took a lot of time.Creating the second map allowed me to better understand geography and how it relates to where people choose to live, with the economic resources of these locations, and how resources were used by people.
By finishing all of the areas on the Pakiden Island, the economy will evolve from just developing land to concentrating on more mechanic. The last two locations create more ways to ship raw materials & farming products to factories. As the economy stabilises and becomes rich through banking system funds, it will help factories to improve on technologies & energy systems, and globally trade by using air and sea port.
The second map presents a lot of difficult human challenges in relation to the managing of human resources and the challenges presented by social and economy class. The map causes you to consider several issues including transportation costs, the difficulty in travelling through rough terrain, and the needs of people who live near dangerous features in the environment such as active volcanoes. Also this map help me learn by connecting everything as a completed individual included transportation, resources, population, levels of different cities and also how each independent economic community operates.
Physical maps doesn’t included human population it only shows the land form of the , such as houses or roads, they give people a clearer view of the natural world than of the human world. Natural features, like mountains, rivers, volcanoes, and forests, are showed on a physical map to assist a person in knowing the environment before constructing buildings, road, or any other infrastructure. A physical map can also shows where to build and live safely, it will provide knowledge of significant landforms, such as mountains, forests, and rivers, and where there may be danger.
if i can redo this project again i would think and do more sketch before i actually use marker on it, the issue is that we have too much things that we want people to understand through this project but the reality was it became too messy that you will feel very confused if there’s no one explaining to you what are different parts about.
The physical map shows necessary information to people so that they can learn about the island’s knowledge based on natural characteristics such as volcanoes on the land. The population map connects to the physical map by showing where people have chosen to live based on social class and what type of community has developed depending on the available resources. Finally, the economic map shows how populated areas were developed. It shows how the natural features of the physical map include natural resources that goes into creating factories and also shows how goods are transported from factories to the cities in which they are sold.
This project connects to PBL which incorporates many projects by using many of them together. This can be done by using environmental science and city planning along with animal and animal habitats on lands and in oceans. This project shows how land forms, oceans, and natural disasters such as volcanoes affect humans and other animals. This project shows how communities can survive with the use of farms, trade, factories, and service jobs. We will make maps that reflect the land, population, economy, and environment so that readers can understand more about the relationship between land, economy, population, people’s habit also animal’s habit.
My classmate's critiques helped me a lot with the project when they encouraged me to change my initial idea allow me to complete a single simplistic map. The initial map focus was only on the land and topography aspect only. However, after getting some suggestions from my classmates that the map was empty and bored, I added a gender ratio map to show how the place’s age ratio might be. Also, I created an economy map to explain how each villages created economy and are able to trade and sustain themselves. The feedback i received from my classmates really build my view of the project and improved my geographical knowledge towards building my world.
