Crafts development around orange peels
Cut, wrapped, folded, shredded, smeared, sanded, smelled, felt. All of these are part of a research-based project on orange peel, looking for material potential it may hold and offering a fresh take on it.
An ecological approach to life and design has led to the choice of a common local resource, which also embodies an Israeli, cultural, and individual story.
Using sensitive hand practices,
I developed techniques and tools adapted to working with this material, enabling the creation of elements in different sizes, regardless of the peel size.
Cutting a template - and creating a modular connecting unit
Just as the peel in its natural form is the receptacle of the orange, the material research findings are also presented as receptacles that preserve the unique properties of the familiar material, texture, smell, and character.
Coating - grinding the pulp, seed, juice vesicles, then smearing and drying it
Pressing - connection of the peel to itself and other materials under pressure
