Crisis counselors are trained to provide free and confidential emotional support and crisis counseling to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress and connect them to resources. These services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, across the United States.

Services: Benton County Mental Health offers “counselor of the day,” for community members experiencing a mental health crisis; as well as a mobile crisis unit that evaluates a patient for safety and imminent danger, facilitates safety planning, and refers patients to mental health support through the county. Patients can call 988 after business hours for a crisis counselor available 24/7. After business hours, 988 will contact an on-call social worker through Benton County Mental Health.

Services: White Bird and Cahoots are two organizations that partner together to provide mental health crisis services to Lane County. White Bird provides remote crisis counseling over the phone including assessment and safety planning while Cahoots is an organization that partners with law enforcement and medics in Lane County to accompany them on a call.

Services: Lincoln County Mental Health offers mental health crisis services through their crisis line for patients (866-266-0288) and their mobile crisis unit that visits patients at home. They assess safety, facilitate safety planning, coordinate transportation to the emergency department if appropriate, and refer patients to community mental health programs through Lincoln County. Lincoln County has access to a couple of beds at Youth Tides, a group home for adolescents needing mental health support, or who are at risk of homelessness.

Services: Linn County Mental Health offers a counselor of the day for community members experiencing a mental health crisis. Additional services include a mobile crisis unit that evaluates a patient for safety and imminent danger, facilitates safety planning, and refers patients to mental health support through the county. 988 will contact an on-call social worker through Benton County during after-hours.

Services: Marion County Mental Health offers phone and walk-in crisis counseling. They assess safety and imminent danger, facilitate safety planning and refer patients to community mental health services. Marion County is unique in that they can offer twenty-three hour respite beds at their mental health clinic, rather than a psychiatric hold at the hospital. This service is available to adults and adolescents. Patients are re-evaluated for safety each day and can participate in groups to develop coping skills.

Services: Polk County Mental Health offers crisis counseling services that evaluates a patient for safety and imminent danger, facilitates safety planning, and refers patients to mental health support through the county. Polk County offers same day access to ongoing counseling services through the county when a patient completes paperwork before noon. Clinic is open M-F 8AM-5PM; the crisis phone is accessible 24/7.
