Your People
Like me, you may not want followers. Those who lean on you for guidance, inspiration, instruction.
The operative word is LEAN.
Carrying such a burden can be heavy and you can quite easily collapse under the weight of this responsibility.
Lesson: DO NOT BECOME A MARTYR FOR YOUR PEOPLE. Don't burn yourself out by being in unboundaried service to them.
When you find yourself resisting engagement with your people, it may be time to reconsider HOW you offer yourself in service to them.
As an example, I love one-on-one engagement. I generally find people fascinating, particularly those who are striving to some level of expansion. However, there is only so much of a 'case load' that I can carry at any one time.
Which led me to writing, so that my words to one person could be read by many. Teaching is another passion of mine ... one I'm in the current process of establishing my rhythm in. I want to make courses based on the guidance that I seem to offer time and time again, based on the similar struggles and issues that I've seen in my interactions with strivers.
Writing and teaching have thus become the main way that I serve the greater purpose-driven community, and with specific attention to those wishing to serve The Cause.
Another point to keep in mind is that you do not want to exploit those who put their trust in you by supplying you with their email addresses or sharing their deepest heart with you.
For the longest time I resisted list building, despite (or maybe because of) all the online marketing “gurus” telling you that the money is in the list. And therefore you should have as large a list as possible - multiples of thousands.
For those who may not understand what this means because you may be unfamiliar with psychology of sales, particularly online sales, it means that you attempt to capture (!) as many visitors as possible with your various online honeypots, and entice them to sign up to your email list. And then you have a captive audience that you can send your special offers to and remind them how brilliant you are and the problems you can solve for them. For a price, of course.
Because they tell you that selling is a numbers game. That only a tiny percentage of people will pay attention and buy what you are selling. And (for example) 4% of 10000 is more profitable than 4% of 100 people on your list.
It’s a little bit more involved than what I’ve just explained, but tacky, much? It is to my soul.
I certainly didn’t want to play this game. Not by those dynamics, anyway.
It feels ugly. Just ugly.
Lesson: DO NOT SEE YOUR FANS OR FOLLOWERS AS AN EXPLOITABLE RESOURCE.
I want for you to break away from following such gurus. Get information, certainly. Learn from experts. But don’t let them guide your choices.
LEAD FROM YOUR HEART. LEAD FROM YOUR SOUL.
And then choose from your accumulated knowledge-base how to best achieve your objectives. Don’t feel shy of tweaking and experimenting. Go ahead with whatever excites you at the centre of your being. Go ahead with what FEELS right.
If you think it might be helpful, you can read the rather strange way I go about my business plan on how I am aiming to fulfil my mission. Have fun. Be magical in ALL things!
I enjoy on-point conversations, and I'm quite willing to dig deeper on this topic.
Let me know what isn't clear or that I haven't addressed ... either at all, or to a satisfactory degree.
Be as personal or as general as you feel comfortable being. But be aware that in order to infuse more power into this package, I will likely use your query to help other participants as well.
Your questions and comments will help me to make this a stronger and more useful package.
