Practical Research 2

Practical Research 2, a core subject in the Senior High School Applied Track curriculum of the Department of Education (DepEd) in the Philippines, builds upon foundational research skills while developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills through quantitative research. The curriculum is structured around several key content areas:

1. Nature of Inquiry and Research. This section introduces students to the characteristics, strengths, weaknesses, and types of quantitative research. It emphasizes the importance of quantitative research across various fields and provides a foundational understanding of research variables. 

2. Identifying the Inquiry and Stating the Problem. This section focuses on the process of formulating a clear and concise research problem. Students learn to identify a suitable research topic, develop focused research questions, define the scope and limitations of their study, and identify potential beneficiaries of the research. 

3. Learning from Others and Reviewing the Literature. This section emphasizes the importance of conducting a thorough literature review. Students learn to select, cite, and synthesize relevant literature following ethical standards and appropriate citation styles. They also learn to develop a conceptual framework and define key terms. 

4. Understanding the Data and Ways to Systematically Collect Data. This section covers quantitative research designs, sampling procedures, instrument development, and data collection methods. Students learn to select appropriate research designs, develop valid and reliable instruments, and data collection procedures. Ethical considerations in data collection are also addressed. 

In the case of Adamson Senior High School, items 5 and 6 are continued in Inquiries, Investigations, and Immersion in the second semester of the school year:

5. Finding Answers Through Data Collection. This section focuses on the practical aspects of data collection and analysis. Students learn to use appropriate instruments, collect data systematically, and analyze their data using appropriate statistical techniques. Data presentation in tabular and graphical forms is also covered. 

6. Reporting and Sharing Findings. The final section focuses on the interpretation and reporting of research findings. Students learn to draw conclusions based on their data analysis, formulate recommendations, and present their findings in a formal research report. Ethical considerations in reporting research results are also emphasized. 

Practical Research 2 provides a comprehensive introduction to quantitative research methods, equipping students with the skills necessary to design, conduct, and analyze quantitative research projects effectively. The course emphasizes a systematic approach, ethical considerations, and the practical application of research techniques.
