Consistent attendance is paramount for academic success in Practical Research 2 and Inquiries, Investigations, and Immersion. Regular and punctual attendance allows learners to actively engage in classroom instruction, participate in activities, and benefit fully from the learning environment.
Attendance Policy
Expected Attendance. Learners are expected to attend all classes and activities unless excused for valid reasons.
Excused Absences. Excused absences include (a) illness (documentation from a physician is required for absences due to illness lasting for three school days), (b) family emergencies (documentation may be required for family emergencies, depending on the nature of the emergency), (c) school-sanctioned activities (participation in school-approved events, such as competitions, requires appropriate documentation), (d) other legitimate reasons (other absences may be excused at the discretion of the research adviser, with appropriate documentation).
Notification and Documentation of Absences
Notification. Learners must notify their research adviser of any absence within the same day, regardless of the reason, through a personal message sent via Telegram.
Absence Note. For all excused absences, learners must submit an absence note upon their return to school. The absence note must (a) be handwritten by the parent or printed on a short bond paper by the student, (b) be signed by the parent in wet blue ink (electronic signatures are discouraged), (c) include the learner's name, the dates of absence, and the reason for absence, (d) include a picture of the absence note with a valid ID card of the parent placed on top of it for verification purposes, (e) be emailed to john.albert.gurtiza@k12.adamson.edu.ph with the subject line: ABSENCE NOTE FOR <INCLUSIVE DATE>, and (f) includes the content of the handwritten or printed absence note in the body of the email.
Consequences of Unexcused Absences
Unexcused absences will not be tolerated. Learners who are absent without a valid excuse letter will not be allowed to make up for missed written work or performance tasks.
Attendance for In-Person Classes
Checking of attendance for in-person classes will be done by the research team’s compliance officer. During the attendance checking period in class, the compliance officer must send the attendance of their team. See Enclosure 2 for the format.
Attendance for Online Learning Activity
Checking of attendance for online learning will be according to the attendance checking facility of Microsoft Teams. In cases of intermittent internet connection, power outages, and inclement weather, which make online learning unbearable or impossible, the learner should contact the research adviser about his or her situation via personal message using Telegram to qualify his or her reason for not attending or late attendance in class as excusable. This notification should be within the prescribed class hours of the subject with the learner.
Attendance for Guided Learning
Checking of attendance for Guided Learning will be according to the completion of the prescribed guided learning activity on BlackBoard. A learner who fails to submit his or her requirement within the prescribed schedule of the guided learning activity, but not within five days, will be marked tardy. Otherwise, he or she will be marked absent.
Grace Period
Learners arriving 46 minutes later than the official class start time will be marked absent.
Learners arriving 16 minutes later than the official class start time will be marked late (tardy), provided that learners who are late should notify their research adviser as soon as possible of the reason for coming in late via a personal message sent through Telegram.
Repeated tardiness (three times in two weeks) will be considered a minor offense and may result in disciplinary action.
Learners who come in late should scan the official quick response (QR) code of the Student Discipline Office and have their details recorded before admission to class. The QR code can be found at the doors of each classroom.
Class Suspension
As a matter of policy, the suspension, cancellation, and/or postponement of classes in a particular region shall be announced by the Department of Education Regional Director.
In extreme cases, such as floods, high tide, et cetera, in a particular municipality, the mayor may cancel classes in the particular area.
In the absence of an announcement from the local government unit or a representative of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the University President may use his or her discretion in instructing the principal of the Basic Education Department to suspend classes if the condition in the school area will endanger lives and safety of the students, teachers, and other school personnel through the home-school communication system (Parentline).
It is not the responsibility of the research adviser to announce whether classes are suspended, canceled, or postponed.
Learners are expected to monitor the news through the following social media accounts: Department of Science and Technology-PAGASA (https://www.facebook.com/PAGASA.DOST.GOV.PH), DepEd Philippines (https://www.facebook.com/DepartmentOfEducation.PH), Manila local government unit (https://www.facebook.com/ManilaPIO), Adamson University (https://www.facebook.com/AdamsonUniversity.Official), Adamson University - Senior High School (https://www.facebook.com/AdamsonUSHS), and Spotlight Publication (https://www.facebook.com/adushs.spotlightpublication).
In the event of suspension, cancellation, or postponement of classes during scheduled graded or summative tests or activities, the same will be given when classes resume.
Completion of Missed Written Work and Performance Tasks
Any excused absence does not exempt a learner from written work or performance tasks and any matters required during the period of his or her absence.
The responsibility for making up such work, which shall be afforded to the students, especially contestants, by the research adviser, depends upon the learner. He or she is responsible for completing the missed written work and performance tasks within three school days after their return. Missing this prescribed period for completion would mean forfeiture of his or her chance to do so.
Conclusion
Regular and punctual attendance is essential for academic success. Learners are expected to adhere to the attendance policy and procedures outlined in this memorandum. Any questions or concerns regarding the attendance policy should be directed to the research adviser.
Effective Date and Amendments
These guidelines and procedures on attendance will take effect starting Friday, 1 August 2025. These guidelines are subject to change as circumstances require. Any modifications or updates will be promptly communicated to all research advisees through a memorandum.
Repealing Clause
All existing numbered and unnumbered memoranda and other related issuances inconsistent with this numbered memorandum are repealed, rescinded, or modified accordingly.
Dissemination and Compliance
For immediate dissemination and strict compliance.
