Midnight's Children is a book by Salman Rushdie that deals with India before independence and after independence. The book has a point of view of post colonialism, as we can see in the film that first there were British who have colonized and after independence there were Indians with powerful positions and were rulers of India.
The movie “The Reluctant Fundamentalist” focuses upon the theme of racism and an American Dream of a young man Changez Khan and his journey of becoming a reluctant fundamentalist. There are two meanings of fundamentals have been used, first in business and another is in terrorism. The word has same meaning but in different context.
On 15th August, after flag hoisting, we have arranged a screening of movie “Sardar” in our Department of English in Maharaja Krishnakumar Sinhji Bhavnagar University. The film has used flashback and documentary techniques with real footages and newspaper articles, it can be consider as a biopic on the life of Sardar Vallbhbhai Patel. All evidence related to the events is there.
On 6th September we have celebrated Teacher’s day in our Department of English. Almost twenty students have participated and our juniors have also taken lecture in our class. Megha Trivedi is studying in semester 1 and she has taken “Reading of a short film – ‘Aasai’ as her topic of teaching.
The first thing that movie is suggests that never judge anyone from their cloths or reputation in society, there are people with black heart hidden in white skin. There is one dialogue by Amitabh Bachchan,
“Save boys, save sons”
And it is truth that first we have to change the perspective of boys towards girls then only we could hope better for our society.
On 26th September, in the dailyschedule of Department of English, Komal Sahedadpuri has presented one short film named “Selfie” in the column of personal presentation. The title of the short film suggests that it should be about social media and how some of us are very conscious about their look and “selfies”
The movie is all about an ambition of a boy and protagonist character Harish Patel who wants to get the visa of USA. After watching the first half of movie I was thinking that the problem of the protagonist is to get the visa of USA and how he would be able to reach America but the real journey is different than we think.
