Sub Divisions are divisions within the WT LSPD that cater to different practices. These are areas of focus for an officer involved in the sub division.
Certifications are for the privilege to use certain vehicles, the ability to train other officers, or perform certain duties while still on normal patrol.
The following is a breakdown of each sub division and certification:
WT Law Enforcement Certifications
There are multiple certifications that exist within the law departments, each one catering to a specific vehicle or practice.
LEO Certifications:
FTO:
Field Training Officers are LEO’s who have been cleared by their respective department to facilitate training of new recruits or to clear others for a particular specialization upon receiving the appropriate training. An FTO’s clearance is -not- a guarantee of either a promotion or a specialization, just a prerequisite for it.The final decision will always fall upon your superiors up the chain.
MEDIC:
LEO’s who are medically qualified will receive the MEDIC specialization, allowing them to perform first aid legally. You should not conduct first aid on anybody unless you have this specialization. If someone is in need of medical attention and you do not have this, you contact someone who does or EMS.
A LEO with this qualification must ensure they always carry a first aid bag with them. Failure to do so may result in the specialization being removed
This is the only qualification that requires clearance from both a member of EMS and FTO before the LEO is eligible to receive it.
Note: If there is no EMS around medically qualified officers can provide medical. If there is EMS around, the only medical treatment you are cleared for is BANDAGING/STOPPING ACTIVE BLEEDING.
HEAT:
The Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic unit exists to police individuals grossly exceeding traffic laws in a manner that go beyond what conventional police cruisers and LEO’s can compete with. All HEAT vehicles will be two-door and as a result, cannot be used to transport suspects on grounds of LEO safety. HEAT units are deployed only as interceptors.
HEAT is deployed only at the discretion of LSPD Command in the event of heightened traffic crime such as in the event of street racing or other incidents involving enhanced vehicles.
MOTO:
The LSPD Moto Division is comprised of Bikes of all shapes and sized to help keep up with other 2 wheeled vehicles.
WT Law Enforcement Sub Divisions
There are multiple sub divisions that exist within the law departments, each one catering to a specific practice.
Limit 1 sub-division per officer.
LEO Sub Divisions:
CID:
Criminal Investigation Department is a specialization granted specifically to Detectives. They are responsible for investigations involving specific crimes (i.e. murders, kidnappings, narcotics etc.) and typically have the freedom to consult with confidential informants and go undercover. They work closely with GTF.
LEO’s permitted to conduct undercover activity, be it dressing in civilian clothes or operating unmarked vehicles, should keep identification on them at all times if deemed possible. Any undercover activity should be cleared by their respective chain of command beforehand. An undercover LEO cannot initiate a traffic stop or an arrest but are able to assist marked units in them instead.
METRO:
Metropolitan Division, commonly referred to as Metro Division or just Metro, is a Special Operations Group which specialize in citywide crime suppression, dignitary protection, crowd control and service of search warrants.
Individuals of this specialization are given first pick when it comes to raids or other high profile situations and generally are given to LEO’s who have shown dedication to the LSPD and prowess with firearms and tactics.
EOD is now a part of Metro. Explosive Ordinance Disposal is a specialization focused towards allowing LEO’s the ability of defusing and disposing of explosive materials or devices. No attempt should be made at interacting with the device unless you are qualified to do so.
ASU:
Air Superiority Division. Air-1 is the designation given to the police helicopter and is often deployed as a support unit to assist in either searching for individuals or tracking a fleeing suspect. On rare occasions, Air-1 may be deployed in offensive operations, either deploying LEO’s via an air insertion or acting as an elevated platform for marksmen.
Air-1’s deployment can only be cleared by a member of LSPD Command (A Lieutenant, Captain or Chief) and can only be done if deemed appropriate to the situation, typically one involving firearms or large scale gang activity where eyes in the sky can prevent LEO’s on the ground being in harm’s way.
K-9:
K-9 is the designation given to the police dog unit. Dog handler LEO’s work with specially trained dogs to help detect and prevent crime, find lost or missing people and protect property. In extreme cases, a police dog can be used offensively to chase down and detain suspects who may be a danger to themselves or others.
Dog handler LEO’s must ensure their dog is with them at all times while on duty and must ensure the animal’s safety and security before all else.
CED:
Community Engagement Division is a specializing in creating and maintaining a balanced relationship with the community. Their main duties are community policing. Spending time interacting with the community, patrolling on bicycles, LSPD social media, and planning community events sponsored by the department. They will not always be on bicycle patrol and are expected to respond to calls while on patrol, but are encouraged to prioritize time spent with the civilian population.
Part of the CED duties do include damage control when a situation involving the LSPD arises and is needed. This means setting up press releases, press conferences, and speaking with members of the community who may have concerns or questions. We want to be as transparent as possible without jeopardizing any on-going investigations.
