KMC ED (937-298-4331)
Welcome to KMC Emergency Department! We look forward to your rotation with us and hope to provide an exciting and educational experience. This page provides the ground rules and expectations for this rotation.
You are expected to be on time and ready to see patients at the start of shift. If you are late or unable to work, you must notify the KMC ED (937-298-4331) and the chief resident immediately. You must contact the on call resident if you will be missing a shift (see Call Schedule). All missed shifts will be made up. The chief resident must approve all schedule changes.
Emergency medicine is a days, nights, holidays, and weekends specialty. In order to provide the most comprehensive experience, all residents will work a variety of shifts.
Per department policy, all residents work 18 clinical shifts. Students work 11 shifts with an EM resident.
Emergency medicine requires balancing multiple patients with multiple problems. Be assertive and seek out sick patients and procedures. This is your opportunities to perfect skills you will use in your career.
Teamwork is important in the ED. Work cordially and effectively with support staff and midlevels.
You are responsible for having a current badge and EPIC access before the first day of the block.
Complete medical records in a timely manner. Notes for hospitalized patients should be completed before you leave. Notes for discharged patients should be completed within 24 hours.
Incomplete records, especially for greater than 48 hours or on a consistent basis, will result in notification of the program director and will affect future schedule flexibility. The billing company may send you a text message regarding overdue charts.
