Wind Ensemble
The West Stokes High School Wind Ensemble is made up of approximately 25 students, comprised of the most advanced band students grades 9-12. The curriculum is intended for mature, advanced student musicians and focuses on the development of advanced musical vocabulary, instrumental technique and expressive musicianship through rehearsal and performance of grade IV-VI concert literature. Instrumentation is limited to a traditional "wind ensemble" format with one or limited numbers of players on each part.
The Wind Ensemble is open to all high school students at West Stokes who play a wind or percussion instrument. There is an audition requirement for this ensemble, typically given out in April the previous year. Members of the Wind Ensemble regularly earn seats in the Northwestern District All-District Bands, North Carolina All-State Bands, UNCG Carolina Band Festival Honor Bands, and Wachovia Winds Youth Ensemble. The Wind Ensemble performs about 5-6 concerts a year, and also performs annually at the State Music Performance Adjudication festival.
