Doctoral Study Wins World Championship

Mrs.Blessing Danso is a young and talented Scientist who began her research career as an Environmental Scientist at the University of Cape Coast (UCC)-Ghana in Aug 2009. As a result of her hard work and academic excellence, she earned the student government position as Vice President of the school of Bioscience Students Chapter, UCC.For her Capstone project, she investigated the residue of pesticides in tomato samples harvested from three local farms and the potential risk to consumers. Her creativity and the use of a novel scientific approach in her investigations earned her the recognition to apply her findings in the local government of her municipality upon graduating in May 2013. As an environmental health officer, she supervised and evaluated several projects that improved public health by identifying, tracking, and addressing environmental risk factors in the municipality. Her ingenuity, contributions, and dedication to the Scientific community earned her a full scholarship to study at Jiangsu University of science and technology (China).

Whiles studying for her masters, she consulted for small-scale fish farmers in Ghana on the best environmental practices for sustainable aquaculture. Blessing excelled in all her course work during her master’s program and was the co-investigator for the research MicroRNA profile of silk gland revealing different silk yields of three silkworm strains.

As a result of her excellence and diligence, Blessing was awarded a full scholarship to Jiangsu University to pursue her doctoral study in Environmental Engineering. Her doctoral study is ongoing, and she is currently the principal investigator for the research Valorization of wheat straw and bioethanol production by a novel xylanase and cellulase-producing Streptomyces strain isolated from the wood-feeding termite, Microcerotermes species.

Her enthusiasm towards science propelled her to become an active member of the Air and Waste Management Association (AWMA-USA) and the American Chemical Society (ACS).
