Population: 7000
World of Origin: Same as Rirsen.
Body: Squidlike. Lack skeletal structure. Six tentacles form the legs, either acting individually or combined into two legs. Torso narrows from the waist leading to a ⅜ meter shoulder width. Arms end in three small tendrils about four inches long, each with suction cups. Head is conical with two large, wide-set eyes facing forward. Mouth is a beak surrounded by six small tentacles. Males are slimmer and more agile in the water, females have more bulk and strength. No bones but rather have a semi-skeleton made of cartilage. Can come in a myriad of colors, usually very bright.
Height: average 1.5 meters/5 feet, little difference between male and female.
Lifespan: 50-70 years, mature at 15.
Diet: Omnivorous, usually eating seafood. Tend to raise gardens of plant life as well as catching fish. Food preparation is simplistic.
Habitat and Physiology: Amphibious, but only capable of living on land for relatively short periods. If seperated from a water source, a Kamarian will experience the following symptoms;
The Kamarian will need to refresh themselves every so often by visiting a water source. Most prefered method is total submersion in a clean body of water, a half hour of which per twelve out of the water will ‘reset the timer’. Rain will also serve this purpose, however it is viewed as unreliable due to the density of rainfall and time. As a rule of thumb, Kamari must spend a full hour in a moderate rain to make up for twelve hours out of the water. They can also drink/ingest fluids, but the effects are difficult to measure.
The Kamari build their homes underwater, preferring either caves or tight artificial structures such as sunken ships. While some may change homes or be entirely nomadic, Kamari tend to live in the same spot most of their lives.
Personality: On the whole, the Kamari are a timid race, often shying away from people they don’t know. Once they are comfortable with a person, they are adamantly loyal, helping with nearly any task that the person is having difficulty with. ‘A Kamarian Companion’ is a phrase that roughly means that someone is difficult to get close too but if you can manage it they are one of the best people you will ever know.
Social and Cultural: Kamari tend to settle in the water near larger land settlements. Thanks to them being capable of more land-movement than most other sea-life, they can also settle in nearby lakes or large rivers. They do have the concept of personal property, but are eager to share with other Kamari and their friends.
Kamari also decorate their homes and villages quite extensively. Anything from small shiny objects to large constructed works of art can usually be found in a Kamari settlement. They are also skilled with making underwater plants grow and often incorporate them into their decorations.
Roles: Many of the older Kamari still remember the stories and the reminders around them from the days of the mega-corporations. As such, they are reluctant to engage in labor or sell their ink, as they were forced to do both under the corporate regime. Kamari born in or raised in Snakey are more comfortable with these, though the stories still linger in the collective subconscious. If they feel someone is trying to take advantage of them, they will abandon their post and spread word to their fellows. Most of them assist at seaside businesses where strength is not required. They also grow underwater gardens and sell to restaurants or sell decorative plants to people on land.
