Title of the talk: Statistics in health research: practical examples of its application

Abstract: Statistics is a fundamental tool in answering health research questions. In my presentation I will highlight the importance of statistics in health research, giving examples of specific studies and questions and the tools used to answer these questions. I will give examples related to the cultural adaptation and validation of instruments, the study of the relationship between clinical variables, and studies on the effectiveness of a particular health intervention as an attempt to illustrate the application of statistics to different problems.

Anabela Silva is a Professor at the School of Health Sciences, University of Aveiro. She has 129 indexed publications and an H-index of 24. She has participated in several national and international projects and has supervised more than half a hundred Master/PhD students. She is the Director of the MSc in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, Vice-President of the Pain, Mind and Movement Special Interest Group of the International Association for the Study of Pain, member, and secretary of the General Council of the University of Aveiro, and associate editor of several scientific journals. Her main research interests are related to the prevention, assessment, and non-pharmacological management of chronic pain from a biopsychosocial perspective and the development and assessment of user-centered digital tools in the context of healthcare provision.
