Talk 1
XI Workshop of Probability and Statistics group
CIDMA- University of Aveiro
Speaker: Augusto Silva - IEETA/DETI, University of Aveiro
Title of the talk: Radiomics: A data driven process to go beyond pixels
Abstract: Radiomics is a rapidly growing field in medical imaging, which aims to extract quantitative features from medical images to support diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of various diseases. The sheer volume of imaging data generated in clinical practice requires the use of statistical and machine learning techniques to extract meaningful information from these images. This talk will be an overview of the key concepts of radiomics, statistics, and feature based machine learning in medical imaging. It will discuss the challenges of radiomics, including image acquisition, preprocessing, feature extraction, and interpretation, and how statistical and machine learning techniques can be applied to tackle these challenges. Potential applications of radiomics in clinical practice will be addressed, such as predicting treatment response and patient outcomes, and the potential impact of radiomics on personalized medicine. Overall, this talk will emphasize the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to radiomics, incorporating expertise from radiology, oncology, statistics, and machine learning, to fully realize the potential of this promising field.Augusto Silva is an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Department of Electronics, Telecommunications, and Informatics of the University of Aveiro. Researcher at the Institute of Electronics and Informatics Engineering of Aveiro (IEETA). Vice-Director of MSc. Degree in Biomedical Engineering of the University of Aveiro.
