Lt Wooldridge never thought he would make the 25 missions. He sweats this raid, jumping every time a burst of flak is seen. He makes it back and his CO plays a cruel joke on him. Below, his final words in the diary.
Lt Wooldridge returned to the states, below, shown with wife Marjorie. He remained in U.S. Army retiring after nearly 25 years. He trained other B-17 pilots, was in Anti aircraft artillery in the Korean War, and protected the Savannah River Bomb Plant (heavy water for nuclear weapons) among many other assignments.
