Above, the aircraft flown by Lt Wooldridge crew on this mission, and the only B-17G model he flew during the war, "The Old Fox," B-17 42-37784. This is NOT the Wooldridge crew shown above. Tragically, The Old Fox was MIA on May 24, 1944 after a mid-air collision with another B-17 over Berlin, with pilot Wilton Gease POW and the 8 crew KIA.
Below, the half page account of Lt Wooldridge's mission over Wilhelmshaven. The target is U-boat pens. This was the first mission with 500 bombers being dispatched. By late 1944 and 1945 the 8th Air Force would be able to put over 3000 bombers in the air on a single multi-target mission.
