If you're using Windows Media Player 10 on modern Windows operating systems (10, 11) and want to install a skin, you might run into a problem with it.
Normally when you open a WMZ file (Windows Media Player skin file) a pop-up would appear to use it. However, when using WMP 10 on newer versions of Windows, the file won't be recognized and will instead prompt you to select a program to open it with. If you select Windows Media Player to try and open it, it will register as unknown audio format.
But don't you worry! There is still a way you can add skins without having to open it directly.
Steps:
Locate the skin you've downloaded.
Now, go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Media Player\Skins" or "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\Skins".
Place the file in the folder, and then right-click on it.
Select Properties.
On the General tab, check under Attributes and verify if there is a message next to Security that reads: "This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer."
Check Unblock next to the message.
If you had WMP open during this process, close and reopen it. You should now be able to use the skin with no issues.
