The dental emergencies where the attendance of a dentist at the ED might be required are:
· dental trauma requiring urgent temporary fixation beyond the skills of the ED doctor
· uncontrolled bleeding from dental trauma or post extraction
· deep spreading odontogenic infections requiring urgent surgery (e.g. septic patient, Ludwig's angina)

Follow up of the three categories of patients above as well as any other dental cases can only be done at the Community Dental Clinic if the patient is:
a child or
a holder of a concession card.
All other patients must follow up at a private dental practice.
To make a referral to the Community Dental Clinic for eligible patients, fill out Oral Health Referral Form SMR010740 and ask the patient to call 1300 552 626.
