It is a good idea to give patients factsheets about their condition upon discharge. Remember, this is only a reminder device, your counselling is the most important factor in ensuring compliance with discharge instructions. Also, make sure that the factsheet aligns with the advice you have just given the patient
Emergency Care Institute - These 1 - 2 page fact sheets are easy to understand, useful for post-discharge instructions
NSW Health Factsheets - These are detailed but still easy to understand fact sheets on a variety of conditions including some obscure genetic diseases and infections. Use this site to explain the intricacies of Angiostrongylus Catonensis
Better Health Channel - This site, run by the Victorian Government, has a large volume of information on a wide variety of topics. The information is more detailed than the ones above but the pages don't print well and are a bit text heavy with no diagrams.
Royal Hospital for Women - These address common conditions and concerns during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Inside Radiology - These are detailed patient hand outs on a wide range of radiology investigations from RANZCR
Royal Childrens Hospital, Melbourne - A large number of fact sheets, alphabetically arranged. No PDF option, so they don't print very well.
Victorian Paediatric Orthopaedic Network - Useful, illustrated fact sheets for common childhood fractures and plaster care
Sydney Children's Hospital - Similar to RCH, better formatted. It also has a large number of fact sheets translated into other languages.
Emergency Care Institute - This page contains links to the children's hospital fact sheets but they have listed the commonest conditions on one page so that you don't have to go looking for them.
