Mary Newton holds a Bachelor of Arts from Lenoir-Rhyne University (1994). She is a National Board Certified Teacher. She earned her Master of Arts in Teacher Leadership in Curriculum and Instruction from Gardner-Webb University (2019). She is currently a doctoral candidate at Gardner-Webb University.

Certified in 9-12 English Language Arts, Mary has taught in various districts across NC and all levels of ELA from 9th to 12th grades. She currently teaches English I in Fuquay Varina, NC and writes high school ELA curriculum for her district.

Mary's research interest includes wise feedback as an intervention for students transitioning to high school.
