To apply for a BCeID, you first need to determine which type of account you need. As of 2026, the Personal BCeID has been retired, leaving two main options.
Basic BCeID: Best for individuals accessing simple services (like Income Assistance, student loans, or personal permits). It does not require in-person identity verification.
Business BCeID: Required for business owners, non-profits, or representatives acting on behalf of an organization. This often requires proof of business registration and identity verification.
This process takes about 10 minutes and is done entirely online:
Go to the BCeID Registration Page.
Enter your legal name and email address.
Create a User ID and Password.
Set up your security questions (choose ones you will remember, as these are vital for password recovery).
Accept the Terms of Use. You will receive a confirmation email immediately.
Go to the Business BCeID Registration.
Provide your Business Number (from the CRA) or your Incorporation Number.
Identity Verification: Depending on your business type, you may be able to verify online. If not, you must visit a Service BC or FrontCounter BC location with government-issued photo ID within 30 days to finalize the account.
BC Services Card Alternative: Many provincial services now prefer the BC Services Card app over BCeID for individuals. If you have a BC Services Card, you may not need a BCeID at all.
Security: Your BCeID password will typically expire every two years for security purposes.
Local Verification: If you are in West Kelowna and need to verify a Business BCeID in person, the nearest Service BC office is located at 305-478 Bernard Ave, Kelowna.
