VICTIM SERVICES

Fraser Health provides a range of specialized medical and forensic services, while coordinating closely with police and community-based victim service programs across its region.

1. Fraser Health Specialized Medical Services

These health-focused services are available to survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, or elder abuse.

• Forensic Nursing Service (FNS):

  • What it is: Provides 24/7 emergency medical-forensic exams, including evidence collection (if within 7 days of the incident).

  • How to access: Go to the Emergency Department at Surrey Memorial Hospital or Abbotsford Regional Hospital. You can ask for a forensic nurse directly.

• Embrace Clinic:

  • What it is: A specialized outpatient clinic for survivors who may not need a full forensic exam or are past the 7-day window. It offers trauma-informed medical care, STI testing, and mental health referrals.

• HEAL Clinic (SCAN Program):

  • What it is: Specialized medical and psychological evaluations for children (0–18) suspected of experiencing abuse or neglect.

2. Police-Based Victim Services

These units are located within local RCMP or municipal police detachments. They provide court support, information on police files, and help with Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) applications.

3. Community-Based Victim Services

These are non-profit agencies that specialize in helping victims of specific crimes, such as domestic violence or sexual assault. They often provide long-term counseling and transition housing.

4. Financial Assistance

• Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP): A provincial program that can help pay for counseling, medical expenses, and lost wages resulting from a crime.
