Volunteer

The Wiregrass Region Digital History Project current relies solely upon volunteers to help meet our goals. We need a variety of skills of to help accomplish our goals. The following is a summary of the types of volunteers that we need. All volunteers we need a love for history. All volunteers are welcomed to help search for people to interview and at risk structures. Feel free to help with more that one task.

Interviewers: We need people to conduct oral history interviews with individuals about the lives of the subject and about the histories of various locations.

Photographers: You do not have be a professional photographer. Amateur photographers are welcomed. Essentially, you will need to go out to old structures or sites and takes pictures of them. Having a device that can geotag photographs (most smart phones can geotag photographs, or being able to pinpoint the location of where one took the photographs is desired.

Researchers: Researchers will be assisting photographers and interviewers with tracking down more information about the subjects we cover. People who can write and research are desired.

Transcribers: Oral history interviews will need to be transcribed, so that hard copies can be preserved in the event of format obsolescence of the recorded interviews. In addition, accessibility is helpful. Transcribers can help with the creation of closed captions for our YouTube videos.

Videographers: We need people to record oral history interviews, to assist in the production of short local history documentaries, and to record the occasional presentation by a speaker. Video editors

Writers: We need people who can write about history, and proofread the writing of others.


County Coordinators: As the WRDHP grows we will need people to help coordinate the project at a county level.

In addition to the volunteers needed for the content that will appear on this site, our YouTube channel, and our social media accounts, we also desire people to help expand Wiregrass related Wikipedia articles, and to help input death certificate data for Wiregrass Georgia counties into Find a Grave.
