Over the past few months my music taste has shifted and I have been listening to a lot more artists across a wide range of styles and genres. Most notably, these past 2 months I have been listening to a lot less Deathrock/Goth and more Emo and Drum and Bass. My most listened to artist this month has been a mix of Sewerslvt/Cynthoni and Asking Alexandria. This has had quite an effect on the progress of my FMP as i feel as if I have Lost the motivation to produce a over of a Deathrock song and I want to create something more in line with my current music taste such as creating an Ambient DnB/Acid House EP or covering a few songs that fit the genres I am currently into. On the left are some of the tracks that stood out to me. I feel as if they have inspired me to create something similar to them.
This week, my music taste has drastically shifted. I like to think that my music taste follows how I feel at a certain time and seeing as these past few weeks have been rough for me, my music taste reflects that. I have been listening to more Ambient DnB, Breakcore and Ambient tracks from artists such as Aphex Twin,Cicada Sirens, Cynthoni and a new artist called Shoebill. While I will be doing the two covers I initially planned I do feel as if I want to make my own ambient DnB/Breakcore tracks alongside my covers Unrelated to my FMP. The Tracks listed are my most listened to this week with Cigarette wife being the only track listed that is not DnB. I may even create a small DnB track to go alongside my FMP as something extra. I feel as if I personally could easily make my own ambient Dnb/Breakcore track since most of the elements used are samples from other songs that are pieced together with an Amen Break over all of it.
During the Easter Holidays, my music taste sort of reverted back to more Emo and Metal related tracks with my most listened to one being a Lesson Never Learned by Asking Alexandria followed by Famous Last Words by My Chemical Romance. Asking Alexandria has actually been my top artist this month alongside Sleeping With Sirens and My Chemical Romance. I feel as if this is because of my current mood and the things I am experiencing right now. But its almost like a circle as my music taste reflects the mood I am in but can also dictate it at times. I still listen to Ambient DnB etc. all of the time however not as frequently as I have done these past few weeks. To the left, is my top tracks this past week in this genre. I feel as if this is where my taste will stay genre wise. As for how this influences my FMP, I feel as if my final cover will be more in the style of popular "Emo" bands like My Chemical Romance and Sleeping With Sirens with the vocals and speed of the song while still keeping the somewhat of the overall gothic/Post Punk theme of the original song.
This week my music taste has only slightly shifted as I discover more bands in the genres I like. This week I have been listening to bands such as A Day to Remember, Asking Alexandria, Bowling For Soup and Sleeping With Sirens with my most listened to track this week being A Day to Remember's song Life @ 11 on the album Common Courtesy. The level of emotions I have attached to these songs is immense and I really feel a connection to each song I listen to. On top of that, I have also been listening to a lot more industrial music. One band that stood out to me was KMFDM. Often heralded as the band that brought industrial metal to the masses with their sound combining typical rock/metal stereotypes with that of electronic dance Music. While they do have a tarnished and controversial reputation thanks to the Quasi-Facist stylistic fad in the scene at the time in the 80s/90s and also some very bad people being huge fans of them in the early 2000s, I do really enjoy their music. Especially tracks such as HYENA, Megalomaniac and Kunst which are my personal favourite industrial tracks over all. As for my feelings towards this genre, I believe this type of music for me is something I can put on in the background while I work as there is no real emotion or feeling being provoked in this genre for me, its just groovy.
