Research coil vases on Google, Pinterest, or any other search engine. Collect three visual examples (pictures) of coil vases. Upload the images to your process page. Below the pictures, add a link to where you found the image, and explain what you like about each example below the link. Be descriptive; no vague comments like It's cute, or I like it because it is blue.
Fill out your Coil Vase development page. In your development section, upload a picture of your design page to your process page. Below the picture, explain your design on your process page.
Step 1: Wedge your clay. Make a slab.
Step 2: Cut out a circle. It will be your base.
Step 3: Roll out coils. (1. Grip a lump of clay in your hands and squeeze it into a long shape. 2. Gently roll the clay back and forth between your hands to lengthen it. 3. Roll the clay back and forth on a flat surface with your hands. 4. Roll the clay, starting in the middle and working your hands out to the ends of the clay. Repeat this action until the clay forms a long, thin rope-like coil.)
Step 4: Score and slip the edge of the base and the coil.
Step 5: Make a clean cut at the end of the coil.
Step 6: Smooth the inside of the coil connection with the end of your wooden knife.
Step 7: Continue to build the coils. You can widen the vessel by placing the coil closer to the edge of the coil. To shrink the vessel, place the coil closer to the inner part of the coil. You can smooth the outside or keep the coil decoration.
Step 8: Take a picture of your coil vase. Set your greenware coil vase on the bisque fire shelves.
Upload a picture of your art piece before it is glazed and add it to your process page. Explain how your process went on your process page.
Step 9: Rinse your bisque ware.
Step 10: Apply three layers of glaze and set it on the glaze fire shelves.
Step 11: Finish your process page.
Take a picture of your finished coil vase using the photo studio tent. Upload your image to your process page and answer the questions below with 3-4 sentences on your process page.
