Year-End Reflection (05/08/23)
1. What are the three most important lessons you learned in LMP? Please address these areas and comment:
Bed making and professional dress. Bed making showed us how to be organized and showed us how much hard work housekeepers put in to keep our rooms neat.
Without tourism Guam would have almost no revenue. The only revenue would be from the locals and now there's not very much so that wouldn't be much.
Telephone skills. It helped us prepare for future jobs.
2. Describe the most memorable experiences in LMP.
- My most memorable experiences were the valley of the latte field trip and the be a tourist field trip. The valley of the latte let me bond with my friends, learn more about my own culture and eat good food. The be a tourist field trip gave me the same opportunities but I got to learn more of Guam's history and take good pictures.
3. What were your happiest or proudest moments of high school?
- My proudest moment of high school was when I got to tell everyone that I was CPR certified. When I went home and told my grandma, she was so proud of me. My happiest moment was when I took my senior pictures. It made me realize that I was going to make it, that it was close to the end and that all that hard work paid off.
4. What were the challenges you had to overcome in high school?
- I had to overcome procrastination, I had to tell myself that in the end it would benefit me to do something. I was never very good at doing assignments on time but when I did do them I think I put a lot of effort into it. Mr. Chong Was one of those people that pushed me until it was done and never gave up on me.
5. What were your regrets in high school?
- My only regret was not taking every opportunity that was offered to me, like field trips and work experience. If it had worked I would have been able to get a certificate of mastery and hear that next to my name at graduation. I wanted to do it but procrastinated greatly.
6. How has high school prepared you for life (including college and career) or how has LMP taught you life lessons ?
- It has taught me that nothing in life comes easy. Every good thing thing comes from hard work.
7. If you had to redo high school, how would you do it differently?
- If I had to redo it, I would take better classes, like parenting and art. I would've made it an experience I can look back on and smile. Although for some classes, I can. Like LMP, It has taught me that making friends can never be a bad thing and that being open about how I feel can really help.
8. Who was the best guest speaker in LMP during all three years? Why?
- I think the best guest speaker was Ms. Mo. She was not only informal but also very open about herself and gave us some life lessons. She shared about things that most guest speakers wouldn't normally speak about, like her best friend that she started Mosas with, her fiance and her pregnancy.
9. What was your favorite ice breaker question? Explain.
- My favorite icebreaker was " would you live with your partner before marriage or after?" It was my favorite because we all had different opinions about how we would do things. My view stays the same about the subject, that i would live with them before marriage but some people chose the other option.
10. Rate your effort in LMP3 (1 being the lowest, and 5 being the highest). Explain your rating.
- I would rate my effort a 3, just because I don't think I did a lot of my assignments on time. But I did end up doing them and my participation was good. I participated in things like the beautification and the CPR training.
10. What advice do you have for incoming Hospitality students?
- My advice would be to put in a lot of effort, it is a fun class with a lot of fun opportunities but if you don't finish your assignments, Mr. Chong will kick your butt.
Restaurant Project Reflection (4/28/23)
1. What was your role in the restaurant (food truck) project with ProStart? Rate your effort from 1 to 5 (5 being the most) and state why.
My job was to make the flyer and the menu. I would rate myself a 4, because I did make it really nice but I had all the resources.
2. What was the outcome of this project from your perspective? Discuss your LMP team's collaboration among yourselves. Evaluate your experience working with ProStart: what went well? what needed improvement?
I think we did good, my team worked together well. For everything we just bounced ideas off of each other and came to decisions together. Between us and prostart there were some last minute communication problems but we worked it out.
3. How did you apply marketing concepts to this project? Was your team's presentation convincing, marketing wise? What is the biggest lesson you learned about applying marketing principles to this project?
One marketing concept we used was social media and we used bright colors on our posts to peak interest. According to our panelists, our marketing was 100% convincing. The biggest lesson i learned was that you have to market in ways that will reach all demographics.
4. If you were to re-do this project, explain the changes you would make to ensure a successful event.
One thing I would change is our outfits, yes it was food truck attire and that is what we gave off, but I wish we had stuck to one color.
Be a Tourist Field Trip Reflection (3/29/23)
1. What were your impressions of Guam from the perspective of a tourist? (comment on Guam's sceneries, cleanliness, ease to visit, signages, uniqueness, etc. what is your overall view of Guam as a tourist destination?). Be detailed - comment on each site (what you like, dislike, etc.).
I loved how all the sites had different things that were special about them. Ft. Apugan had the clifftop view and the canons. Asan Bay Overlook had the big plaques with names of those who were in the war. Emerald valley had the pretty turquoise water. Adelup had the big latte stone and cliff. Plaza De Espana has the chocolate house. Two Lovers Point has the overlook, the padlock wall, etc. South pacific memorial had the caves. The only thing I disliked was how they weren't all well-kept.
2. What recommendations do you have to improve Guam's scenic and historic sites?
I think they should be cleaned, cut the grass, waterblast the concrete, remove unnecessary things. Also, another thing they could do is get the community to help out, so it's cared for, not just neglected.
3. Which were the places that you visited for the first time? Which was your favorite site and why?
I have visited all of the sites before but my favorite was Asan Bay Overlook. Not because of the view but because of the history. Knowing that so many people fought for something that meant the world to them, their home, their families.
4. Which team gave the best presentation? Explain. And if you were in a presentation team, comment on how your team did.
The best presentation was at Two Lovers Point. They were very informal and even made it fun. I was apart of the asan bay overlook presentation team, i think my team did okay. We knew our lines and what to say but it seemed like as soon as we got up there, we forgot.
5. What was your biggest surprise about the whole field trip?
I think the biggest surprise was Mr. Chong taking a detour to Emerald Valley. It was surprising because he's a person that likes to stick to a list or a schedule.
6. Please comment on our Lam Lam Tours bus driver, Mr. Mike Santos (how well did he do his job, what was the bus condition?).
Mr. Mike was very good, he was making jokes and talking to us. He was good about getting us around even with traffic. Although I did think we hit a car a few times.
7. What would you change if we were to redo this field trip? (sorry, we cannot change the weather or our climate).
I would wear better pants, my pants were helpful when it rained but not when it got hot.
Freshman Recruitment (02/17/23)
To start of our recruitment, we split up into groups. We practiced for about 1-2 weeks and got our parts down. We made sure that we had more to say than what was on the slides so the students would be more intrigued. We changed some pictures on the presentation to get it up to date. We also added a ted talk slide to better show them about how we practice public speaking.
I think we did good, we were organized and prepared. We got them to ask a lot of questions and interact. Many people said that it was their favorite presentation. A few people were so excited to sign up. They were asking many questions so I think the outcome was good.
I think we can improve by making it more interactive. Maybe we can demonstrate some of our activities to them. We can show them how to tie a tie or how to make a bed. That will show them that that knowledge actually stuck with us. What I would do differently next time is maybe project my voice more and ask them more questions.
Everfi Financial Literacy
In your reflection, discuss the following questions (copy and paste these questions with your answers):
1. How useful was this course to you?
This course was very useful for me, I learned how to budget, and how to stop impulsively buying things. I also learned how credit and debit cards actually work.
2. What were the easiest and most difficult modules?
The easiest lesson for me was budgeting because I already kind of knew how to do it but it expanded my knowledge. Budgeting is basically things we already know like, making sure you have enough money for bills and the important things. The hardest lesson was income and employment because it was talking about taxes and taxes have so much paperwork and numbers that it gets confusing.
3. What additional topic would you like for this course to cover? (investments, Social Security, retirement, etc.)
An additional thing I would like this course to talk about is how we can still receive income after retirement. This course mostly prepares you for life while youre working but not after.
4. Why would you recommend this course?
I recommend this course because it has helped me better understand money and things that involve money. It prepares you for the paperwork that you will have to fill out when you start working.
Ted Talk
Today I did my ted talk, I spoke on something that wasn't easy. Putting my feelings out there isn't something that's easy for me. I feel like I'm going to be judged for the way I feel so I just keep it to myself. Today I didn't, I got out of my comfort zone and spoke on my adversity. I put my heart out there and told people my story.
Talking in front of people who I know, and trust made it ten times easier than I thought it would've been. For almost three years me and my peers have had to bond and get to know each other like siblings. Putting our trust in one another all for this moment. I thought when I looked at them that I would be getting faces of pity, but I wasn't. Instead, I was getting admiration. I asked a few of them why and they said, "because even though you were suffering with that, you never failed to come to school and smile."
Hearing the kind words of the panelists and my peers made this experience fulfilling. Instead of being sad that I had to stand up there and relive some of my bad times, I was joyful. Joyful that I was able to impact others with my words. That I was able to get my point across without my nervousness taking over. That the only thing I had to memorize was the quote because I spoke from the heart. I'm so thankful for this experience.
