In this article, Jerry Roberts talked about 8 different steps to build charisma. One of the steps is being decisive and i think thats a problem most people have.
1st paragraph: what was discussed?
2nd paragraph: how will you apply this lesson?
In Mr.Ocampo's presentation, one of the main things that stuck with me is how he talked about commitment. How it's better to stay committed to one company so you can move up the ladder faster. Also, how important soft skills are no matter what job you have and how he were able to work on his. I learned that first impressions matter, not only a physical impression but also a mental one, like how they saw potential in him. Another thing I learned is that you should always listen to Mr.Chong.
I was most impressed with how he became store manager in less that 2 years, at 19 years old and how they emailed him back in 15 minutes. I liked what he said about taking in the right people, I think that can also apply to life in a way. If you choose the right people you succeed and if you don't you fail, that's much like what he said about building the right team. I think that even though he was nervous he got his point across well.
In this activity we learned how housekeepers make beds and the different methods you can use, we were taught the 3 sheet method. Mr.Chong also taught us how to do a miter folds, the angled fold and the straight fold. I had known about the miter fold but the 3 sheet method was new for me, when I went home I tried it on my grandma's bed. Another name for the miter fold is "hospital fold", along with that we learned how to make everything look neat and clean. We learned to squat down and not bend down because it gives you more leverage.
I enjoyed this activity because I am able to apply this to my life, I can use it on my bed and make it look nice. It makes me appreciate housekeepers more because I understand how much work they put into their work. When I go to hotels I try not to leave the room and bed too messy. I was surprised with how fast we were able to make the bed. With how much we make beds at home, thinking about it, it wasn't that much of a surprise.
Ms.Wong talked about her personal experience in the hospitality industry and the different jobs and positions she's had. She talked about her newest job at Resort World as a luxury service manager. We got to see the hotel on the internet, the section she works in and what she's in charge of. She also talked about how covid affected the opening and how different it is from Guam. We asked her many questions, like how she balances work and personal life, if shes ever dealt with rude customers and many more.
The biggest thing I liked about the presentation was how she spoke, she was loud, clear and was confident in what she was saying. I think that she's a very cool person, she has a very nice job and the hotel overall is very luxurious. One thing that freaked me out was that they have rolls royce's and expensive suv's. She was very interactive and I loved that, we had prepared questions before and we still had more questions because it was very interesting. I'm very thankful for her openness in her talking and she also got to ask us questions as well.
Mr. Bentacourt talked about how your supposed to serves customers being a security guard, he also shared his own experience. He talked about how without customers no one will get payed, the customer is always right and that the customer can fire everyone. You have to approach everyone like they're customers even if they might not be. There's three questions you need to ask: Are you enjoying your stay?, May I help you with anything? and have a great day! He also talked about the daily duties of a security officer.
I personally liked his presentation, I feel like he explained everything very thoroughly. I was surprised by the amount of things that they do not because I didn't know that they did all that but because I've never thought about it. Security guards aren't people you really think about, yes they're there but you don't wonder what they do. You automatically think that they just stand there and watch people to make sure they're safe but you don't realize what that entails. They have to monitor, report on it and act on it if necessary.
