6/2/17 How our logo came to be!

Our hospital logo contains two little cartoon characters that were originally conceived by an Australian graphic artist. Mike saw his work online and managed to make contact. We went back and forth with sample drawings until celebratory and happy animals emerged. The artist was overenthusiastic about bandages and initial efforts showed guys that appeared cute, but adversarial. Bandage layers had to come off and we went for a stethoscope instead of a crutch. Color choices…font… many decisions and lots of patience on the part of the artist…and then, modifications finished.

We were satisfied with our South Davis Veterinary Center logo. We got our name in there, a happy dog and cat and colors that are not too trendy. My mother thought this was a hair unprofessional and Mike’s mother loved it. We have joked that a golf hole in the ground would say, “South Davis” more pointedly, but of course we see pets from all over Davis (and Winters, Woodland and Sacramento), so we did not get too localized with the drawing.

However, we now have new hospital plans for West Davis. I have lived in Davis since 1992 and only recently learned that the people in West Davis are neighborhood proud. I had not heard the term “best Davis” until recently. Mike and I live in downtown Davis where homeowners do not have local pride bumper stickers. Given this reality, the West Davis Veterinary Center logo needs to “represent”. A local artist, Adele Shaw, helped with the transformation. The characters now celebrate in front of a mountain range that may look familiar to anyone looking westward in our town. In fact, we took a photo from the field where Arthur and Russell intersect for the Berryessa Gap outline.

We hope everyone likes it.
