Today’s Pacific Northwest player profile is on Sakda Timsuwan. Sakda’s first tournament was in the fall of 1993. His first usatt rating was over 2100 at 2136. Thirty plus years later his rating has never been below 2100 at any time. In 1996 he played in his first U.S. Nationals and was the runner up in the U-2200 Singles. At the 2003 U.S. Nationals he won the U-2200 Singles and reached the quarterfinals of the U-2300 Singles before losing to the eventual winner of the event. In 2005 Sakda won his first Washington state singles championship. Returning to the 2006 U.S. Nationals, he reached the semifinals of the O-30 Singles. Jumping forward to 2008 Sakda won his second Washington state singles championship and at the 2008 U.S. National again reached the semifinals of an event, this time the O-40 Singles. 2008 was also the year when he reached his peak rating of 2453 which put him just outside of the top 50 players in the country. At the 2010 U.S. Nationals he was the runner up in the O-40 Singles then followed that up at the 2011 U.S. Open again being the runner up in the O-40 Singles. At the 2021 U.S. Open he reached the semifinals of the O-50 Singles losing to the eventual champion. For his entire tournament match history Sakda’s win percentage is 75% and in league matches it’s at 85%. Today, over 30 plus years later Sakda is still one of the best players in Washington and in the Pacific Northwest. He’s currently number 8 in Washington and number 10 in the Pacific Northwest. He is also the number 1 player in the O-40 and O-50 age divisions in Washington and the Pacific Northwest region.
