Kerry was a student at California State University Long Beach in 1981 when her friends dragged her along to a tournament in Corona, CA. She didn't win a game (her words) and her initial ustta rating was 1256. In 1982 she was part of her college team that won the 1982 regional ACUI College tournament. In 1985 Kerry moved to Richland, WA. The same year she played in the first of 5 National Sports Festivals. She was part of the 1985 Gold Medal team winners and with her partner Diana Gee won the silver medal doubles. At the 1986 U.S. Nationals she was runner up in the Women's U-2100 Singles and in Women's Singles advanced to the Quarterfinals before being eliminated. In 1987 she played in the Olympic trials. She twice played in the Pan Americal Trials and played well enough to be first Alternate. Jump to the 1989 National Sports Festival Kerry/Carol Davidson won the Gold Medal in Doubles and Bronze medal in the team event. In the 1990 National Sports Festival she won Silver in the team event and the Bronze medal in Women's Doubles with Lan Vuong. For the 1989-1990 she was member of the Women's U.S. National team. In her final and last National Sports Festival in 1991 Kerry was part of the Gold medal winning team event and with Lan Vuong again in Women's Doubles won the Gold Medal. Her peak rating was 2112. From 1986 to 1991 Kerry was the number 1 Women's player in Washington and the Pacific Northwest.
