Rob Roberts was part of the Big 3 who included Joe Lee and Tom Ruttinger who dominated Table Tennis in the Pacific Northwest from the late 60's to mid 70's. Rob was the lefty of group known for his big loop stroke. The first time I found Rob's name in the Table Tennis Topics was in the December/January 1967/1968 issue . He lost in the finals in the Masters Singles. To reach the finals Rob upset Larry Lee (3 time Canadian National Champion). Some of his other notable wins were against Jack Howard (2 time U.S Open Men's Singles runner up and U.S. World team member) and Zoltan Pataky (Canadian Top 5 player). From 1968 to 1974 Rob was consistently ranked in the top 50 in the U.S. with a peak ranking of 17. From 1973 to 1976 Rob along with Joe Lee and Tom Ruttinger played in the National Table Tennis League which was a professional TT league that was the created by master promoter Windsor Olsen. The team would travel all around the West Coast and Canada and as far as Haiti playing the regions best players. Rob would play till the late 70's until he retired from tournament play.
