Quang Bui is the most accomplished player ever to come from Washington state. Quang was born in Vietnam, but came to the US in the aftermath of the war, as his family settled in the Seattle area. Some of his career highlights include teaming with Dean Doyle, from Oregon, to win the U-17 Boys Doubles at the 1977 US Open and US Nationals. At the 1978 U.S. Nationals, Quang teamed with John Stillions, from Iowa, to take 2nd in U-17 Boys Doubles. At the 1978 U.S. Nationals, Quang/Dean Doyle were runner-up in the Men’s Doubles. Quang was a two-time U.S. Open runner-up in the U-17 Boys Singles, in 1979 and 1980. At the 1979 Pan American Games, though the U.S Team lost 5-4 in the finals, Quang went 3-0 in his matches, beating the top three players from the Dominican Republic. He was the U.S. Men's Amateur Singles Champion twice, in 1984 and 1986. At the 1984 U.S. Nationals, Quang and Brian Masters, from Maryland, were the doubles team that ended the 8-year winning streak of Danny Seemiller/Ricky Seemiller as U.S Men’s Doubles Champions. Quang again teamed with Brian Masters in 1985 & 1987 to win Men's Doubles at the US Nationals. At the 1983 U.S. Open, Quang and Sean O’Neill paired up the win the International Club event over a team from South Korea. At the 1986 US Olympic Festival, Quang and Ardith Lonnon, from Minnesota, teamed up the win the Gold Medal in Mixed Doubles.
