Next on the PNW player profile in Michael Scott or as most people know him by Dr. Michael Scott. In 1970 Dr. Scott was named the director of the Washington TT Association Club. In 1973 he arranged to start a club at Seattle University in their gymnasium. Through out most of the 70’s and 80’s the regions biggest tournaments were held at the Seattle University club including the yearly Seattle Seafair tournament every summer. He along with Joe Lee and Tom Ruttinger also performed exhibitions at schools and during halftime of Seattle Sonics games. While running the club he was also in charge of the USTTA disciplinary committee from 1973-1982. Playing wise Dr. Scott was one of the top senior players in the PNW. His first taste of U.S. Open/ National success came at the 1975 U.S. Open when he won the O-40 Consolation Singles. At the very first U.S. Nationals in 1976 he was runner up in the Esquire Singles (O-50). In the 1978 U.S. Nationals he teamed with Russ Thompson to win the Esquire Doubles. Forward to the 1985 U.S. Nationals Dr. Scott won the O-60 Singles vs Y.C. Lee. He then teamed with Y.C. Lee at the 1996 U.S. Open to win the Veteran Doubles (70+). Then at the 2001 U.S. Nationals he won the O-80 Singles, making him one of the select few people to have won Open/National titles in 4 different decades.
