The next Pacific Northwest Table Tennis history profile is on Liana Wunderlich from Richland Washington. (All dates and stats listed based on what was published in Table Tennis Topics magazines. There were tournaments that no results or tournament write up were printed in TTT magazines.)
Liana played in her first tournament in June of 1979 at the Rose Festival Open. Her first tournament win was in the Pacific Northwest Open in December 1979, winning the U-13 Singles. It was one of 40 event finals she made, winning 25 of them. In 1980 she made the first of her 5 U.S. Nationals event finals winning the Junior Consolation Singles. She finished the 1980 year as the number 8th U-13 and number 17th Girls player in the country. At the 1981 Nationals she won her second U.S. Nationals event. In 1982 she reached number 9 U-17 and was in the top 50 for U.S. Women and finished the year making her third finals event at the 1982 U.S. Nationals this time as runner up. During 1983 Liana was the number 17 overall in Washington state and the number 1 junior girl and top 10 junior in the state. For 1984 she reached a new high of number 30 U.S. Women and was invited to the Pan American Team Trials. She finished 1984 by reaching the finals of the Women’s U-1850 finishing second to Ardith Falkner and the finals of the Girls U-17 doubles with Michelle Mantel losing to who eventually became USATT Hall of Fame member Diana and Lisa Gee. During 1985 she reached number 25 U.S. Women and number 6 U-17 Girls. At the 1991 Washington Summer games held Bellevue Liana won the Triple crown, the Women’s Singles, Women’s Doubles with Aisil Kawamoto and the Mixed Doubles with Vince Mioduszewski.
