Sometimes you might feel bad about negotiating salary, having the fear that aggressive negotiating can corrupt your relationship with a new employer. Even if you do not prioritise money it is important to fight for them. Projects are split based on compensations. If you have better salary, you will be doing higher impact projects or even more complex ones. Don't get into situation that you will not fight for you and then you will grow resentment to your employer that you are not getting good projects even if you proved overtime that you are best fit for them.
Answer yourself one and only one question: would promoting you make your manager life easier?
That is all what is needed. Understand me. You can get promoted based on your competency. But it will only happen if it makes your manager life easier. It is important rule which is essential to evaluate business health.
This promo rule might not be true in some progressive environments temporary, but at some point it might change, as business is ruthless and if they do not follow it then they dig their own graves.
