Animals/Termite Information

Yes, we have termites, centipedes, scorpions, gecko, flying gnats, mice, frogs, birds and those are just the small critters. As for the bigger cousins, we also have the turkeys, goats, feral pigs, cows, stray cats and dogs wondering our property on a daily basis.
As a reminder to our residents, Section A.10 from our House Rule states the "FEEDING OF FERAL/WILD ANIMALS [IE. TURKEYS, PIGS, GOATS, ALL BIRDS, ETC) IS PROHIBITED. THIS INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO LEAVING FOOD OR WATER DISHES FOR ANIMALS, PLACING FOOD OR WATER ONTO OR LIMITED COMMON AREAS, LEAVING FOOD IN ACCESSIBLE LOCATION (IE. JUST INSIDE A DOORWAY, OR ON COMMON GROUNDS] OR OTHER MEANS THAT MAY ATTRACT ANIMALS ONTO THE PROPERTY." In short, please leave the animals alone.
On the first Wednesday of every month, we have our Pest and Termite vendor come and services the EXTERIOR of our buildings on a rotating basis. They replenish the mice traps (the black boxes you find around each buildings), spray insecticide externally and knock down wasp nests if it is within reach. They can spot treat or check for termite inside a unit at the owner's expense.
If you find unwanted critters or termites droppings INSIDE your unit, please report it to the Board of Directors. It is the responsibility of the unit's owners to treat or make repairs to damages inside the unit caused by insects/termites.

Animals

Please report any of the following conditions or animals sightings to the Site Manager (929-459-6738 or 808-657-2672)

Any pungent/decay odor, possibly from a nearby dead animal.

Wondering pack of goats and Feral Pigs. Both are easily scared-off and would run away if shooed loudly or approach carefully. The feral pigs can cause major damage to our lawns.

Mice infestation inside your unit.

Cows - when there's a break in the fence of the nearby ranch the cows will end up here.

Termites

How do I know if I have termites? You wouldn't until you start to see their droppings. When you do see their droppings it is likely that they've been inside the wood for at least 2-3 years already. How do the droppings look like? See the pictures below.

Termite droppings look similar to ground dirt, except they are very hard and uniform in color/size. What do the termites look like? When they swarm and are looking for a new home, they look very similar to ants (except ants have 3 separate body sections).

You can easily stop the swarming termite by using windex or any other window cleaner.
Once they find a home, the termite soldiers look similar to the pictures below.

You can introduce termites into your unit from used books or most likely by bringing 2nd hand furniture bought from a garage sale or swap meet.
Please report any possible termite droppings that you see to the Site Manager. The SM can determine if it's ordinary dirt or termite droppings.
