This is the Google Site your Art Teacher Mrs. Kanak has built for the K-12 Art Program/Department of the Wabeno Area School District!
This part of the state is rich with culture and creativity and I want to make sure we are sharing that with each other and in our work!
I have lots of exciting projects, mixed media explorations, and personalized art making experiences planned for this year. However, please feel free to email or tell me your ideas for what you would like to try in the art room!
You are the best connection to my contemporary art and design curriculum planning!
Show me what you have found - let's learn together.
I want you to consider the art rooms as safe places for ideas and creativity to be respectfully shared and explored across grade levels and subject areas.
I am looking forward to my seventh year teaching Art in the Wabeno schools; let's GO!
Are you having problems accessing your child's grades and records?

Greetings! The Friends of Wabeno is kicking off year four of “Friends of Wabeno Student Art Contest” and it’s open to all students in Forest County and nearby towns and communities in grades 6-12. The purpose of this contest is to encourage student-artists and promote creativity and the arts in our Northwoods’ communities.
The Friends of Wabeno is conducting this contest and judges will award 1st, 2nd, 3rd place and Honorable Mention Award certificates and ribbons. Students submitting artwork will receive a Participation Certificate to show their artwork was exhibited in this community art contest.
All submitted artwork will be showcased at WAM Fest, Saturday, July 18, 2026. All student artists, their families, and art teachers are invited to a special reception during the afternoon at WAM Fest at the American Legion Post 44 in Wabeno where the art will be on display. We are working with the Lakewood Library to make an arrangement for some of the art to be on display at the library following WAM Fest during the month of August for added visibility for the students.
Middle and high school students from each school system may submit one entry in each of four categories:
Ø Painting/Drawing – watercolor, oil, pastels, chalk, pencil, pen, ink, acrylic, crayon, charcoal.
Ø Digital Art - Fractal art, 2-D/3-D graphics, digital collage, 2-D/3-D digital painting and digital photo manipulation. No videos or gif for this competition. Artwork must be printed for this category.
Ø Photography – minimum 5”x7” print (see rules)
Ø 3D - clay, paper mâché, wire, the possibilities are endless (NEW THIS YEAR)
The art must be entirely the student’s own work, done with or without teacher supervision. Artwork will be procured from the teacher in May and returned to the teacher at school after Labor Day. Arrangements for pick up and return will be worked out between the teacher and our volunteers.
Below are the Contest Rules & Guidelines, Entry Form, and School Inventory Form. For your convenience, all necessary forms shall also be found at the WAM Fest website, www.WabenoArtAndMusicFest.org.
Sincerely,
Friends of Wabeno - Forest County Student Art Contest team
The Friends of Wabeno is a non-profit community development initiative. Expanding the arts in the community, it is believed, will enhance quality of life, attract visitors, and positively impact its people and the local economy.
Our Antigo Regional WRAP-Teen Exhibit scheduled for April of 2026.
Students ages 13-19 are welcome to exhibit up to 2 pieces of art each at this exhibit.
Artwork entries due April 3. The exhibit will be held at Northcentral Technical College-Antigo Campus.
WRAP-Teen is designed to provide artists ages 13-19 an opportunity to exhibit their work in both Regional and State exhibits. The program's goal is to encourage young artists to create and to be recognized for their work. It also provides an AWA member, art organization, or school to inspire a teen to make art a lifetime pursuit. Each year juried WRAP-Teen Regional exhibitions are held throughout Wisconsin sponsored by AWA.
The young artists who receive State Awards at the Regional level have the opportunity to enter the juried State Conference exhibit. This exhibit is held annually, cash awards are presented and the teen artwork is published in the AWA Annual Color Catalog.
