Career and Technical Education in West Virginia provides our students with opportunity to explore career fields with hands-on learning experiences. CTE teaches real world knowledge and skills along with providing opportunities for industry-recognized credentials and meaningful work-based learning experiences.
West Virginia Department of Education offers 16 CTE career clusters that opens opportunities for students to explore various potential careers in a wide range of fields and industries. The CTE career clusters help students discover their passion and empower them to choose a successful pathway after graduation.

Why should I enroll in a CTE program? Students should enroll in CTE programs because it allows them to explore various industries and graduate with certifications within a field. Students have the ability to work in their related field after high school or choose to continue their education through post-secondary learning.
What if I want to go to college? How will this affect me? The biggest myth and misguided information is a student who enrolls in a CTE program does not plan to attend college. Students have the ability to enroll in programs that are college bound career clusters. Students who enroll in a CTE program at the HS level develop the fundamentals for their career path. It also assists students in determining if this is the right career choice before entering into post-secondary education.
Do CTE courses count towards my graduation? YES! Students who enroll in CTE courses can potentially earn up to 8 credits of personalized elective credits.
