Orange County Herald Center is a faith-based nonprofit organization which has provided holistic care for 10,000+ Chinese immigrants in Orange County since 2014.
As a Stop the Hate grantee, OCHC integrates Christians principles of love and justice in their empowerment programs aimed at fostering inclusive, compassionate community engagement among the Chinese community and beyond.
Their culturally and linguistically relevant programs—including Lunch and Learns, Senior Safety Seminars, and social media campaigns—destigmatize discussions about hate and reporting, encourage self-reflection, and address implicit bias, helping volunteers and participants recognize the ongoing relevance of discrimination following COVID-fueled xenophobia.
Their staff have engaged with victim support services by providing interpretation services, counseling, and other direct resources.
Informed by their experience with hate crime victim case management, OCHC implements a three-tiered educational process designed to incrementally shift attitudes, behaviors, and technical skills, equipping volunteers to respond effectively to hate incidents and provide case management and resource navigation.
Collaborating with more than 100 community partners, OCHC extends care beyond their Chinese immigrant community and educates participants on the various forms of hate, emphasizing practical strategies for prevention and response.
