The arts take us to another world where we can explore our thoughts and feelings free of fear of stigma or judgement. They help children and young people to express things that they sometimes cannot say in conversation, and to celebrate feelings and thoughts that bring them joy or previously troubled them.
The creative process can also be a curative process. Art gives children a safe outlet to express emotions that they may not be able to articulate verbally, helping to make big feelings more manageable. Art also promotes greater mindfulness from a young age, providing an environment in which children can slow down, observe, express their ideas and emotions, and contemplate at their own pace.
