Creativity and critical thinking are key skills for the complex and globalized economies and societies of the 21st century. There is a growing consensus that education systems and institutions should cultivate these skills with their students. However, it can be challenging to know about what this means for everyday teaching and assessment practices - especially in the arts.
Assessment and Evaluation as it supports meaningful learning outcomes for students in Visual Art is important to understand. Exploring a variety of formative and summative assessments for learning techniques, providing meaningful feedback and discussing the use of exemplars are some examples.
It is important to learn how to meaningfully connect Assessment and Evaluation to the Arts Curriculum Document and Growing Success and how this is central to arts instruction and assessment. Understanding about the role of the student and the role of the educator in Assessment AS, FOR and OF learning and supporting the assessment of the creative art process as well as evaluating final art product outcomes are all explored.
