My Network
Mentors: My Mother and Father are the best mentors I have ever had due to their guidance. They showed me how to work hard for my goals and how to persevere through anything. They are the reason I am studying in school in order to be an accountant.
Business Partner: My best friend Anthony Figueroa is very experienced in Sales and sells insurance policies. We work together to find new trends and possible products that people are interested in and we sell it to them.
Realist: My childhood friend Celesmar Herrera is a very hard working individual who welds. He gives me a different perspective in life and helps me see things in another point of view. This often helps me make right decisions because I take all the variables into account.
Trendsetter: Oswaldo Hernandez is a very optimistic friend of mine who is very connected to lots of people through social media. He often finds out what is trending or what can possibily trend in today's world. He helps me figure out wether an idea is good or useful.
Connector: My friend Diana Hernandez Gomez is a tattoo artist who currently works as an apprentice in a tattoo shop. She also does a lot of writing, drawing and painting. She has painted murals for multiple cities as well and knows a lot of people in the creative world and in the business world. She has put me in contact with someone who can help me land an internship. She is very helpful because of her network and creativity.
Advisor: My Advisor is Angela Gray who has advised me what classes to take in order to successfully complete my accounting program and has given me many opportunities to make connections with recruiters in order to land an internship.
NIU Campus Organizations
Hispanic Business Student Association: This organizations helps students of hispanic or latin descent or any students develop scholar, soft, and professional skills. They also teach people hispanic culture and help everyone in the NIU community. They expand knowledge of the hispanic community in the business world. They have many networking opportunities available within and outside of the College of Business and lots of events that help out with fundraising or doing a good deed.
Beta Alpha Psi : This is an Accounting Honor Society that helps teach people about the accounting world. They also have lots of guest speakers who work in accounting roles come in and talk about their experience and possible tips to land internships. They also have firms come in during career fairs to land possible roles depending on which ones they may offer and which you may be interested in. This organization hosts a book drive and donates those books and as well does events to help out in the Dekalb community.
Investment Association: This organization helps you get hands-on-experience with making financial decisions. They hold lots of discussions on how to make proper investments and on how to get started especially if you are new to investing. They hold competitions as well so that you get lots of an experience especially if you want to be a financial advisor. They also talk about lots of topics that may impact the investing world and determining where your money should be put into.
