2021 is a difficult year for everyone. Being stuck at home and not able to photograph outdoors, The 2021 Survival Guide is an attempt for the artist to find entertainment amidst the pandemic. Through photographing domestic objects and with her imagination, these photographs were transformed into games for the readers to play with while reading the book. The texts are cleverly paired with the images and speak directly to the reader as a guide to the games. The entire book has a palette of yellow and grey, which is the 2021 Pantone Color of the Year as selected by the Pantone Color Institute. All these games in the photobook (namely Paper Toss, Guess The Object, Tic-Tac-Toe, Rock Paper Scissors, and 2021 Countdown) are sequenced to create a narrative that responds to the theme behind the two colours: hope and resilience.
