Dear John,
(2023)
A ‘Dear John Letter’ is a letter written to a man by his partner to inform the end of a relationship, mostly because his partner has found a new lover. Inspired by the term, ‘Dear John,’ is a project that explores farewell, memories, and English culture. After staying in England for three years, the artist is going to leave the country as she approaches the completion of her study. On one hand, this project is a love letter to the place she called home from 2020. From the sound of crashing waves along the coast of Whitby to the touch of fallen cherry blossom petals in Cross Green, and the colour of the grey English sky; these images are fragments of memories that are reminiscent of her journey in a foreign land. Yet, this project is also a breakup letter that signifies the end of her relationship with England as she heads off somewhere else. Beyond the bleakness, the images also show a sense of excitement as the artist sets off to a new place.
