Metaphysics of Science

What exists? And how should we characterize it? These two questions are central to both physics and metaphysics. In this course we will employ metaphysical tools to better understand what physics tells us about the world. For instance, while physics presents us with laws featuring temporal variables, spatial coordinates, and properties such as mass, charge, spin, it is metaphysics that provides us with different options on how space, time, physical properties and laws should be characterized. Depending on what options we choose, we end up with different ontological pictures of the world.
