4th Sept. 2018
Our group has been extremely productive through the past week, setting the foundations of both our project and paper to build off of. One of the key tasks this week was to develop our background outline, and we decided that collective brainstorming was the best idea. We ultimately came up with four categories to discuss in our background section in order to set a solid knowledge basis for the reader - History of Public Art in Venice, Funding for Public Art Conservation, History and Status of PreserVenice and Arti.city, and Social Media Culture in Italy. The first section will set the basis for the importance of PreserVenice and why cultural heritage is important to the city; the second will expand upon that with how art restoration for non-”major” projects means that “minor” projects require a more crowd-sourced approach. This naturally leads into PreserVenice and Arti.city and the goals and functionality of both. Finally, our goal is to raise awareness and gain traction with both residents of and tourists in Venice via social media campaigning in its various forms. After the brainstorm session led to this, we all naturally gravitated toward one of each of the four subheadings, and we will proceed by dividing up necessary research along category lines.
Outside of the PQP work, in ID2050 we were all required to write an analysis of a past IQP paper. It so happened that we all chose last year’s VE17-SAVE group to analyse without even consulting each other, which led to a thoughtful discussion at one of our team meetings when we all realized that commonality. We discussed the immediate history of PreserVenice and Arti.city, and how it contextually ties into our project, furthering the development of our background section and helping to clarify what we need. On top of that, until this point, due to scheduling issues, we have only been able to meet with Fabio or Professor Michalson, not both at the same time. We are excited to finally have this opportunity tomorrow, since we are still in the brainstorming process of our project, and having both their ideas simultaneously will help us redirect our project with the numerous questions we have.
