One of our tasks this week was to create a cover page for our paper, which I took on as a task. I have a good deal of experience with graphic design through doing photography and formatting in past projects, so it was a fun break from constant writing in ID2050, for PQP, and for my current philosophy course. I browsed through past project papers for inspiration, and ended up with a few ideas. The Venetian flag hinges around two colors, a crimson red with solid gold accents, so I wanted to use that in allusion to the flag throughout the cover page and possibly our paper as a whole. I made the cover page in Powerpoint oriented in portrait layout, and the current draft is linked as an image here. I used a font I’m familiar with (Spectral, a light serif font) in various thicknesses to accent the key parts of the cover page, using a thick crimson border with an inner golden trim to call upon the colors of Venice. Currently, the backdrop is left as solid white for clarity, though when in Venice, I want to possibly take a photo of the Rialto Bridge at the right time of day and layer it at high transparency behind the cover page, as a call to the cultural heritage of Venice and the logo of PreserVenice.
