This learning objective, LO5: Meaningful contribution and active participation, focuses on engaging with the community in a positive and purposeful way, finding value in shared experiences, and contributing to a sense of connection and collective growth. Through both KNF (dance club) and National Evening, I was able to actively participate in community life by using creativity, cultural expression, and collaboration as tools to bring people together.
These experiences allowed me not only to contribute through performances and events, but also to take on a more intentional role in fostering inclusion, celebrating diversity, and creating spaces where people feel represented and connected. By engaging consistently, collaborating with others, and sharing meaningful aspects of my identity, I was able to understand how participation can go beyond involvement and become a way of inspiring, connecting, and positively impacting the community.
I have been consistently participating in KNF (dance club) as a CAS activity every week, attending rehearsals every Tuesday for one hour and additional sessions on Wednesdays. Throughout this time, I have taken part in multiple performances, including the Drag Show, International Show, Fashion Show, and presentations during three different conferences. Through these experiences, I contributed to creating an engaging and inclusive environment within the school community, using dance as a way to bring people together and celebrate diversity. A key aspect of KNF is that we learn from each other, as we collaboratively teach choreographies, share ideas, and build performances, creating a supportive space where everyone can grow.
This experience helped me develop teamwork, discipline, confidence, and commitment, while also challenging me to balance rehearsals with academic responsibilities. Performing in front of different audiences pushed me out of my comfort zone and strengthened my ability to express myself. Overall, KNF allowed me to understand that meaningful contribution is not only about traditional service, but also about creating spaces of connection, inclusion, and shared expression, positively impacting the community through creativity.
Participating in National Evening allowed me to understand that meaningful contribution is not only about being present, but about using my voice and identity to create impact. Moving from performing dances in my first year to delivering a speech in my second year about the Indigenous and educational crisis in Chile was a significant personal step. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and made me reflect on the responsibility of representing not only my country, but also my Mapuche roots. Sharing these perspectives in front of the community made me realize how cultural spaces can also become platforms for awareness, dialogue, and reflection. This directly connects with LO5, as I was actively contributing to the community in a way that fostered understanding, connection, and a deeper engagement with real-world issues.
On a personal level, this experience strengthened my confidence, sense of identity, and ability to communicate meaningful ideas to a larger audience. It helped me see my culture as something dynamic that I can actively share and represent. On a community level, my participation contributed to creating a more inclusive and reflective environment, where others could learn about Chile beyond stereotypes, especially regarding Indigenous struggles and social issues. By combining performance, storytelling, and cultural expression, National Evening became not just a celebration, but a space for connection, awareness, and collective learning.
