On the other hand Ocean Con encouraged participants to think creatively about how to take action, whether through local beach cleanups, educational campaigns, or global advocacy for ocean protection through the group activities in the opening and close ceremonies.
Personal and Community Impact
On a personal level, Ocean Con strengthened my commitment to sustainability and inspired me to be a more thoughtful and responsible global citizen. It also reinforced the importance of cultural representation, as I learned how different communities relate to the ocean and how their traditions can inform sustainable practices. For the community, my participation helped foster a sense of shared responsibility and unity, as we worked together to envision a future where both people and the planet can thrive.
During Ocean Con, I had the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions about ocean pollution, maritime culture, and how to represent and advocate for the marine environment in a sustainable way. This experience provided a platform to explore the interconnectedness of peace, sustainability, and our relationship with the ocean, both locally and globally.
Reflection
Participating in Ocean Con was a profound learning experience. It allowed me to deepen my understanding of how our actions affect the marine environment. By discussing topics such as pollution and the importance of marine heritage, I learned to appreciate the delicate balance between human activity and environmental health. The event also emphasized the need for non-violent approaches to resolving conflicts over natural resources and encouraged everyone to take responsibility for their impact on the planet. I was able to apply these values specially when I led a workshop on the War of the Pacific between Chile and Peru, where our deep understanding of cultural similarities united us more than the conflict itself. We taught others cultural dances related to the fishing industry of Easter Island (Chile) to share not only knowledge and seafood but also some of the practices.
How This Experience Meets the Objectives
Ocean Con helped me see how peace is not just about human relationships, but also about our relationship with nature. Sustainable practices are essential for maintaining harmony between people and the environment
The discussions at Ocean Con highlighted the importance of collaboration and dialogue in addressing environmental challenges, rather than confrontation with peaceful solutions.
Thanks to all the conversations with the speakers, learning about the consequences of pollution and unsustainable practices inspired me to reflect on my own habits and advocate for more environmentally friendly choices.
I am committed to ensuring that all voices are heard and respected. Through Juntos Con, I advocate for inclusivity and fairness, both within the group and in the wider community.
Participating in Juntos Con has been a transformative experience. It has allowed me to share the beauty of Chilean and Latin American culture while also learning from others. This exchange has reinforced my belief in the power of community service and positive relationships to create a more just and harmonious world. By bridging cultural divides and promoting understanding, I hope to inspire others to embrace diversity and work together toward common goals.
As a participant in Juntos Con, I have had the unique opportunity to represent Chilean and broader Latin American culture within a diverse international community. This experience has been instrumental in helping me develop a deeper appreciation for the richness of different cultures and in strengthening my commitment to fostering unity and understanding.
How does this experience meet the objectives?
Through Juntos Con, I have learned to value the unique perspectives that each culture brings. Sharing my own background while learning about others has broadened my worldview and deepened my respect for diversity.
Presenting elements of Chilean and Latin American traditions has allowed me to both educate others and learn from them. This exchange has helped me better understand the customs, values, and challenges faced by people from various parts of the world.Engaging with peers from different backgrounds has taught me the importance of empathy. I strive to listen actively and respond with kindness and understanding, especially when cultural differences come into play. My involvement in Juntos Con has shown me the value of considering multiple viewpoints when making choices. This approach leads to more thoughtful and inclusive outcomes. By representing my culture and participating in cross-cultural dialogue, I help create connections between people who might otherwise remain separated by language or tradition. These efforts contribute to a stronger sense of community and shared purpose.
On the other hand, this conference taught me to look deeper into the issues we face, seeking out underlying causes and advocating for solutions that address them at their source.
Personal and Community Impact
Futures Con has broadened my perspective and strengthened my passion for service and positive change. Sepcially in art areas such as dance and the act to leading workshops after the activity that I run. It has inspired me to be more proactive in initiating projects like those in STP, where I can combine my love for community service with my desire to build positive relationships and empower others. By taking a systemic approach and collaborating with others, I am better equipped to contribute to meaningful, lasting transformation within the College.
Participating in Futures Con has significantly shaped my outlook on community service and my approach to addressing needs and challenges within the College. This experience has encouraged me to think more critically about the root causes of social issues and to seek out innovative, sustainable solutions.
It provides a platform to discuss pressing global and local challenges, from environmental sustainability to social justice. By engaging in these conversations, I gained a deeper understanding of how complex problems require collaborative, systemic approaches. The event inspired me to look beyond immediate solutions and to consider how lasting change can be achieved by addressing underlying causes. It also motivated me to take a more proactive role in community service, leading me to initiate and support projects similar to those in STP.
How This Experience Meets the Objectives
Futures Con encouraged me to identify specific needs within our community and to develop targeted service projects, such as those I am now involved in with STP.
The event itself connected me and others with external experts and organizations, showing me the value of partnerships in amplifying the reach and effectiveness of our efforts. Also, through Futures Con, I learned the importance of working with diverse groups to create initiatives that are both impactful and sustainable over time. For those reasons, I was inspired to create spaces where all community members can share their perspectives and contribute to the decision-making process.
The workshop I led focused on the soul in bodily movement and how dance can improve certain hormones like dopamine and serotonin. Using the song "Mamma Mia," I taught coordination, and the fun presentation of this dance, which involved building confidence through each step, brought joy to different age groups, including senior citizens.
