NEGOMBO

Our first Sketch + History Walk took place in the seaside town of Negombo, known for its rich history as a fishing port and vibrant cultural hub. Our guide, Roshan Fernando from Rua Grande, an organization dedicated to preserving and showcasing the area’s colonial heritage, led the experience. We welcomed around 42 participants, including Negombo locals as well as those who traveled from Colombo and other cities. Although we were concerned about rain early in the morning, and did experience a brief shower, the weather cleared beautifully by the scheduled start time. After a short briefing, we handed over to Roshan, who led the group with passion and deep knowledge throughout the walk. Our first sketch stop was the iconic St. Mary’s Church, where refreshments were served after the session. The second stop took us to a scenic boat pier, offering another unique perspective for sketching.
